Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced restrictions and urged citizens to opt for alternative measures amid a global energy crisis fueled by the conflict in West Asia.

As the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran enters its second month, disruptions have continued for shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global energy trade.

Energy prices have climbed, supplies are facing disruption, and production is limited.

In response, Australia's National Cabinet has adopted the National Fuel Security Plan to help citizens if supplies remain seriously disrupted over a long term.

Albanese said the country would 'deal with these global challenges the Australian way, working together and looking after each other.'

The Australian PM has cut the fuel excise in half, reducing the tax on every liter of petrol by 26 cents, and brought down the heavy vehicle road user charge for truckies to zero.

These measures will be in place for the next three months, and Albanese urged citizens to switch to public transport, such as trains, buses, or trams, to work.
