Bakersfield Bank Hostage Crisis: 5 Key Facts About Anthony Scott Searles-Harris

Anthony Scott Searles-Harris has been named as the suspected bank robber who strapped a bomb to himself and held people hostage in Bakersfield.

Anthony Scott Searles-Harris, a 41-year-old Army veteran, was shot and killed by authorities after a 15-hour hostage situation at a Chase bank in Bakersfield, California.

Searles-Harris, a registered sex offender, had been dishonorably discharged from the Army and had a history of sex crimes involving minors.

According to witnesses, Searles-Harris strapped a bomb to himself and held 10 people hostage before being shot dead by authorities at 4:20am.

Police chief Jeremy Blakemore said Searles-Harris had 'concerns related to how his previous case had been handled' and was involved in a custody battle for a young child.

Authorities were able to safely diffuse the alleged explosive devices present at the site and concluded they were not a concern.
