A court in Bangladesh has granted bail to former Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, who was recently arrested in connection with an attempted murder case.
Chaudhury's lawyer, A B M Hamidul Mishbah, cited her poor health condition as the reason for the bail request, claiming the case was fabricated.
The court granted the bail on medical grounds, and Chaudhury is expected to be released once a copy of the court's order reaches the Kashimpur Jail in Dhaka.
Chaudhury served as Speaker of Bangladesh's Parliament from 2013 to 2024 and was arrested on April 7.
The case was originally filed in May 2025 by Mohammad Ashraful, who accused former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 129 others of involvement.
