British Indian bookseller to judge inaugural Children’s Booker Prize

LONDON, UK - Sanchita Basu De Sarkar, a British Indian bookseller behind a popular children's bookshop in north London, has been unveiled as a member of the inaugural Children's Booker Prize judging panel.

Alongside UK Children's Laureate Frank Cottrell-Boyce and actor Lolly Adefope, Basu De Sarkar will select the best contemporary fiction for children aged eight to 12 years old.

The winner of the Children's Booker Prize will receive GBP 50,000, while shortlisted authors will receive GBP 2,500 each.

The first Children's Booker Prize will be awarded on February 2, 2027, to a work written in or translated into English and published in the UK and/or Ireland.

Basu De Sarkar will be joined by child judges, selected through a UK-wide competition, to choose the winning book.

The adult panel will select a shortlist of eight books, with the winning book to be announced on February 2, 2027.
