A man carrying a suspected explosive device was arrested at Sacramento International Airport over the weekend, federal prosecutors said.
The 49-year-old man from Sacramento was wearing a scarf covering his face and latex gloves and had five cell phones, including one with a 15-minute timer set to begin.
Authorities described the device as powerful enough to damage a plane, and bomb technicians determined the powder and fuse were viable and energetic.
He is charged with unlawful possession of explosive material in an airport and made 'rambling' calls to the FBI in the months beforehand to report he was being threatened and intimidated.
