A Canadian woman and her 7-year-old daughter, who has autism, were arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) a week ago.

Tania Warner and her daughter Ayla Luca were intercepted at a border patrol checkpoint in Sarita, Texas, while on their way home from a baby shower.

Warner's husband, Edward, says the ordeal has left his family 'traumatized' and that Tania's documentation to reside and work in the US is valid until 2030.

ICE has urged the family to 'self-deport' to Canada, but Warner says they do not want to leave.

Global Affairs Canada has announced that it is aware of multiple cases of Canadians in immigration-related detention in the US and is advocating for their rights.
