Liz Bonis, a long-time medical reporter for WKRC-TV Local12 in Cincinnati, Ohio, has passed away after a three-year battle with colon cancer. Bonis was diagnosed with the disease in 2023 and continued to report for Local12 while undergoing treatment, including participating in six clinical trials for experimental oncology drugs.

Despite her own diagnosis, Bonis chose to keep it private and instead focused on reporting on new medical technology and cancer treatments. Her dedication to her work and her advocacy for clinical trials have earned her numerous tributes from her audience, who praised her for her ability to educate without being preachy.

Bonis was with Local12 since 2002 and was known for her work in radio before joining television. She is survived by her parents and husband, James Harrison, a photojournalist at Local12.
