Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen was found dead in her home on April 1, prompting police to take her husband, Stephen Bowen, into custody.
Nancy was first elected to the Coral Springs City Commission in 2020 and re-elected in 2024, serving a second term as vice mayor.
Before her election, Nancy worked as an environmental scientist and served on the Broward County Soil and Water Conservation District.
Nancy was the first Black woman elected to the Coral Springs Commission in 2020 and was tapped by former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris to serve as Florida's Caribbean Vote Director during the 2024 presidential election.
Her brother, Donovan Joshua Leigh Metayer, a survivor of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in 2018, died by suicide in 2025 after a seven-year battle with schizophrenia.
