Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma was sworn in as the head of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Tuesday, replacing Kristi Noem. An old clip of his has surfaced where he speaks about beating his children.

The video is from 2023, and in it, Mullin says he spanks his children and believes in using a belt as a form of discipline. He also shared a story about his daughter, Larra, who refused to bend over for him to spank her, and his son, Andrew, who was hard on himself and cried when he was spanked.

Mullin's reported clips have put focus on his family. He is married to Christie Mullin for 28 years and has six children together. His son, Jim, suffered a severe brain injury during a high school wrestling match, which led to President Donald Trump's closeness with Mullin.

Mullin is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation but has been described as an 'ultra conservative, white-passing' member of the tribe.
