Disgraced former British television actor John Alford has passed away in prison at the age of 54. He was serving an 8.5-year sentence for the sexual assault of two teenage girls.

Alford, who appeared in popular shows such as Grange Hill and London's Burning, died at HMP Bure in Norfolk. He was convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old girl in 2022.

Prison personnel discovered Alford deceased in his bed, and an investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman has been launched.

Alford's trial in September 2025 revealed that he had purchased vodka for the two girls and committed sexual offenses against them. He had previously been sentenced to nine months in prison in 1997 for supplying cocaine and cannabis to an undercover journalist.
