The G7 and EU foreign ministers have called for an immediate and unconditional end to Iran's attacks against its allies in the Middle East.

They expressed support for their partners in the region and condemned Iran's reckless attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.

The foreign ministers also reaffirmed the importance of safeguarding maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, and are considering providing escort for ships to navigate freely in the Gulf.

The statement comes as the region-wide war sparked by the US-Israeli bombardment of Iran on February 28 continues to escalate, with Iran retaliating with strikes across the Middle East and beyond.
