Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss regional hostilities and efforts to restore peace.
The two leaders emphasized the importance of mutual trust for meaningful dialogue, with Sharif briefing Pezeshkian on Pakistan's diplomatic outreach to the United States and Gulf countries aimed at de-escalation.
Pakistan will host Saudi, Turkey, and Egypt for talks on the Middle East war from March 29 to 30, with the visiting foreign ministers set to meet with Sharif during the two-day visit.
The Islamabad summit comes after Pakistan showed interest in hosting peace talks between Iran and the US and Israel, with Sharif tweeting that Islamabad was ready to host talks for the settlement of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
However, The White House downplayed the news of the talks, stating that no meeting should be considered final until officially announced.
