Chicago authorities have identified Jose Medina-Medina as the suspect in the death of 18-year-old Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman, who was shot near Rogers Park Beach on March 19.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has filed an arrest retainer for Medina-Medina, who is currently in custody, and claims he is an 'illegal immigrant' from Venezuela.

Medina-Medina has a past arrest history, including a shoplifting arrest in June 2023, and was released on bail in May 2023 after his first arrest.

The motive behind the shooting death of Gorman remains unclear, and officials have not released a suspect description.

The DHS has released a mugshot of Medina-Medina, who is being held in jail.
