Indian High Commissioner Prabhat Kumar has stated that India's experience in railway infrastructure and management can benefit South Africa.

Indian companies are exploring opportunities to supply railway equipment to South Africa, with Texmaco Rail and Engineering planning to bring railway wagons from India.

RITES, a railway consultancy, is in discussions to supply railway engines to South Africa.

Kumar highlighted the potential of India's semi-high-speed train, Vande Bharat, which can run on existing tracks at speeds of up to 200 km per hour.

South Africa is currently restoring its passenger and goods rail infrastructure, which has been left derelict due to years of vandalism and theft.

Kumar expressed hope that South Africa would adopt the semi-high-speed train technology, which would not require new infrastructure.
