President Donald Trump and Iranian leaders have announced a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran, with the Strait of Hormuz reopening under certain conditions.

The agreement, reached after a deal between Trump and Pakistani leaders, includes a halt in military operations and the safe passage of oil and gas through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's Supreme National Security Council said it has accepted the deal, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stating that attacks against Iran must cease for the Powerful Armed Forces to halt defensive operations.

The proposal forms part of a broader framework for negotiations with Washington, with Iran acknowledging Pakistan's mediation efforts.

While Washington framed the ceasefire as a strategic success, Tehran portrayed it differently, claiming the US had effectively accepted its conditions, including elements of a 10-point proposal.
