Iran's Parliament Security Committee has approved a plan to impose tolls on vessels passing through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a move that includes banning American and Israeli ships.
The plan, which was formally approved on Monday, outlines key areas of focus including security arrangements, ship safety, environmental protection, financial arrangements, and the implementation of a rial-based toll system.
The approved measures come amid ongoing conflict in West Asia between Iran and the US-Israeli coalition, and reflect Tehran's efforts to assert control over one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the US will retake control of the Strait of Hormuz, while US President Donald Trump threatened to target Iran's civilian energy infrastructure if the Strait is not reopened.
