Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is expected in Islamabad to discuss proposals for restarting peace talks with the US. Araqchi's visit will be a brief one to discuss Iran's proposals, which mediator Pakistan will then convey to Washington.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Iran has a chance to make a 'good deal' with the US, but Iran's neighbours remain Tehran's priority. The last round of peace talks had been expected on Tuesday but never took place, with Iran saying it was not yet ready to commit to attending.

Araqchi's trip comes as pressure mounts on US President Donald Trump to find a way out of the war, with US gasoline prices high, inflation rising, and his own approval ratings down.
