The recent escalation in the Iran-US conflict has seen a series of high-impact strikes by Iran, prompting US President Donald Trump to consider 'winding down' US military efforts in the region.

Israel's strike on Iran's South Pars gas field on March 18 triggered a sharp escalation, with Iran responding with a series of counterstrikes, including a reported hit on a US F-35 jet and a strike on the world's largest LNG plant in Qatar.

The strikes have sent global energy prices soaring and have forced Trump to warn Israel against further attacks on the gas field.

Iran has also claimed to have targeted the US-UK military base Diego Garcia, 4,000 kilometers away from Iranian territory, in a major revelation of its defence capabilities.

The US has confirmed that one of its warplanes made an emergency landing, but has not confirmed the damage to the F-35 jet.

The escalation in the conflict has raised concerns about the potential for a global economic crisis, with the Strait of Hormuz being a critical chokepoint for global oil supplies.
