While two Indian Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) tankers, Pushpak and Piramal, safely transited the Strait of Hormuz this morning, the situation remains precarious as Iranians are not allowing crude oil tankers to be escorted by warships.
Three other tankers were attacked by Iranian projectiles and sustained damage, with the Kandla-bound Thai vessel Mayuree Naree hit on the hull.
The passage of two Indian ships and targeting of others suggests that Iran is using the Hormuz as a chokepoint to trigger a global energy crisis and leverage the US-Israel to back down from war.
Iran's actions are a violation of the UN Convention on the Law of Sea (UNCLOS) and Freedom of Navigation, and have led to the UNSC adopting a resolution invoking article 51 of the UN Charter.
As many as 19 ships have been hit by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, with seven persons killed in the attack.
The global energy crisis will continue until the Iranian regime collapses or comes on the table for talks with the US.
