Iran has condemned the US for what it calls the 'outright legalization of piracy and armed robbery' after the US seized two vessels carrying Iranian oil in the Indian Ocean.

The US Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Ferris Pirro, had posted about the seizures, saying the US forces would continue to pursue cases using every lawful authority to hold sanctioned actors accountable.

The Iranian foreign ministry official, Esmaeil Baqaei, equated the move to the 'return of the pirates' and called for strict action against the US for what he described as 'brazenly lawless behavior'.

The US has seized two tankers, M/T Majestic and M/T Tifani, carrying 1.9 million barrels of Iranian oil each, and the US is said to be unhappy with Iran's latest proposal to end the war.
