Iran has issued a warning of a global oil and gas shortage after US President Donald Trump launched an expletive-laden threat ahead of a Tuesday deadline for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump had said the US would hit energy infrastructure inside Iran if the strait isn't unblockaded, prompting Iran to reply that the so-called 'power plant day' would mean the next day would be 'Power Cut Day in the region', and the year 2026 would be 'Oil & Gas Shortage Year in the World'.
The threat comes at a time when Iran is controlling passage via the Hormuz Strait, and has reiterated that it is closed only to its enemies.
Iran's diplomatic missions launched a coordinated social media offensive, while Trump threatened to target Iran's power plants and bridges.
The Islamic Republic's embassies in various countries, including India, Pakistan, China, France, and Spain, have been posting memes and taunts, invoking an American failure from 46 years ago, Operation Eagle Claw, a historic US military failure in Iran's Tabas Desert.
