At least two merchant vessels reported being hit by gunfire while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, according to Reuters.

The British military confirmed that two Iranian Revolutionary Guard gunboats fired at a tanker in the strait, shortly after Iran announced fresh restrictions.

The incident occurred 20 nautical miles north-east of Oman, but the tanker and its crew were safe, the UK Maritime Trade Operations center said.

The developments came as Iran announced a renewed blockade of the strait, following a brief reopening during negotiations with the United States.

A new round of US-Iran talks is expected to take place in Islamabad on Monday, with US President Donald Trump hinting that he may visit Pakistan to help finalize a potential agreement.
