An Iranian ship near Sri Lanka has requested an urgent port call, Sri Lankan MP Namal Rajapaksa said on Thursday, a day after the US submarine sank and torpedoed the Iranian frigate Iris Dena.
The Iranian naval vessel is in Sri Lanka's Exclusive Economic Zone, just outside its territorial waters, and is awaiting government clearance for the port call.
The US submarine attack on Wednesday, March 4, killed around 87 people and injured several others, with 32 sailors rescued during search operations.
US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth confirmed the attack, calling it a 'huge win' for Washington and stating that the US will ensure its success in the joint operation with Israel.
