Ireland's government announced a 10-cent reduction per litre on both diesel and petrol in response to fuel cost protests that had threatened the country's emergency services.
The protests, which began on Tuesday, were sparked by spiralling petrol and diesel prices following the Middle East war.
Finance Minister Simon Harris said the government 'heard' the protesters and had taken action to address their concerns.
The planned increase on carbon tax has been postponed from May until the Budget in October.
Police deployed public order units to clear blockades at the Whitegate Refinery and other fuel depots, with the Irish police chief condemning the 'illegal activity' as a 'last resort'.
Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan warned that the continued protests were 'unacceptable' and threatened to 'hold our people to ransom'.
