Israel said it struck a plant in Iran, Tofigh Daru factory, which allegedly supplied fentanyl for a chemical weapons program. Iran acknowledged the strike but claimed the factory only supplied medical drugs.
Hospitals use fentanyl to treat severe pain, but a small amount can be fatal. Israel and the US have warned Iran was experimenting with fentanyl in munitions.
The US alleges the factory supplied fentanyl to an advanced research institute in Tehran, known as SPND, which has researched nuclear explosive devices and other weapons.
Meanwhile, a tanker came under attack off the coast of Qatar, and over 20 ships across the Persian Gulf have been attacked by Iran since the war began.
