Israel's security cabinet met to discuss a possible ceasefire in Lebanon, with US pressure mounting to end the war with Hezbollah.

Two senior Lebanese officials said they had been briefed on efforts to secure a ceasefire, while US President Donald Trump hinted at an end to the war with Iran.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government is facing pressure from Washington to reach a ceasefire in Lebanon, with Netanyahu saying Israeli forces were close to 'overcoming' the southern Lebanese town of Bint Jbeil.

The war with Hezbollah has killed over 2,000 people in Lebanon and displaced 1.2 million, with Israeli forces pushing into southern Lebanon to establish a buffer zone.
