US Vice President JD Vance may be asked to return from Islamabad after President Donald Trump clarified his earlier statement on Vance's involvement in the US-Iran peace talks.

According to a CNN report, Vance will attend the talks in Islamabad with special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, despite initial claims that he would not be part of the delegation due to security concerns.

The Secret Service reportedly does not want the VP and the president in the same place at the same time, citing security risks, as Trump has indicated that he might visit Pakistan if a final deal materializes.

Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, threatening major strikes if a deal is not reached before the ceasefire expires, and accused Tehran of breaching the agreement.

The strategic Strait of Hormuz remained closed on Sunday, despite earlier indications that the passage would be reopened during the ceasefire period.

Diplomatic channels remain active ahead of the ceasefire deadline on Wednesday, with some expressing optimism about upcoming negotiations.
