The man accused of killing Loyola college student Sheridan Gorman is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder and weapon charges.

According to ABC 7, Jose Medina-Medina, a 25-year-old Venezuelan migrant, shot Gorman, 18, last Thursday while she and friends walked to Tobey Prinz Beach.

Medina-Medina was arrested shortly after the murder using facial recognition software, and a warrant was issued for him in 2023 after he stopped appearing in court on shoplifting charges.

He is currently hospitalized with tuberculosis and is being detained at Illinois Masonic Medical Center, pending a full hearing on Friday.

The Department of Homeland Security has lodged an arrest detainer, requesting that sanctuary politicians not release Medina-Medina.
