King Charles III paid a heartfelt tribute to his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on what would have been her 100th birthday. In a broadcast message, he described her as his 'darling mama' and said she would have been troubled by the current times but believed in the power of goodness to prevail.
The message was recorded at Balmoral Castle, where the late Queen passed away in 2022. King Charles reflected on his mother's life and legacy, saying she had devoted her life to public service and had shaped the world around her.
The birth centenary events included the unveiling of the design recommendations for a permanent Queen Elizabeth Memorial, which will feature a bronze statue of the late Queen. A digital memorial will also be created, allowing people to share their memories of the Queen and build a living archive of her reign.
Princess Royal Anne officially opened the Queen Elizabeth II Garden in Regent's Park, and a new charity, the Queen Elizabeth Trust, was unveiled to promote community cohesion.
