A 44-year-old former Los Angeles middle school teacher, Colleen Jo Matarico, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing a 13-year-old student.
Matarico, who met the boy when he was 12, was accused of giving him marijuana and expressing her obsession with him through Instagram messages.
She initially faced eight felony counts, but pleaded no contest to two counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age.
During the sentencing, Matarico smiled and laughed, but remained silent, except for saying 'good morning' and 'yes' when asked if she understood the sentence.
