Two Indian-origin men, Akshitkumar Bhadre Patel and Hitesh Patel, have been fined £1,391 (₹1.72 lakh) each for spitting paan in public in London's Brent borough.
The men were initially issued £100 on-the-spot fines for separate incidents in June 2025, but failed to pay and did not appear in court, leading to higher fines.
Brent Council has been tightening enforcement against paan spitting, which leaves stubborn stains on public spaces and street furniture.
Councillor Krupa Sheth said the council is maintaining a 'zero-tolerance approach' to such violations and will continue to pursue offenders.
The enforcement drive comes amid growing concern over paan spitting in parts of north-west London, with Brent Council spending over £30,000 annually to clean paan stains.
