Sean Reifel, a contestant on Love Island USA, has faced criticism from the mayor of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, for leaving his police duties to take part in the reality TV series.
Mayor J. William Reynolds accused Reifel of leaving the Bethlehem Police Department understaffed, just under a year after his swearing-in.
Reynolds expressed disappointment that Reifel had left, citing the cost of training and the difficulty of filling the resulting vacancy.
Reifel's former supervisor, Police Chief Michelle Kott, also expressed disappointment, stating that it was a bad look for the department to allow officers to leave for a TV show.
Reifel has defended his decision, saying 'I'm not an actor, I'm a police officer'.
