A massive fire broke out at the LyondellBasell Bayport Choate plant in Pasadena, Texas, on Thursday, sending flames and smoke into the night sky.
The company assured the community that the flaring was a safety and environmental control device used to manage and combust process materials, but the situation soon turned into a serious blaze.
Multiple agencies from La Porte, Pasadena, and Harris County responded to the fire, which was visible from Galveston, about 45 miles away.
Two large fuel tanks were on fire, and hazmat teams were at the site. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, but there are no reports of injuries at this time.
