Kathmandu, Madhesi youths held a demonstration to protest Nepal's customs duty on goods worth over NRs 100 from India, affecting life in the Terai region.

Lawmakers from the border areas demanded easing the restrictions, citing the imposition of tax on small items as obstructing free movement and damaging Nepal-India relations.

People living in the border area can no longer bring small items such as daily necessity goods, food items, and clothing from India due to the new rule.

A delegation of lawmakers met with Home Minister Sudan Gurung to draw attention to the policy and demanded that border crossings be eased immediately.

Sporadic protests were organised against the decision in several districts of the Madhes province, and the protests will spread if the new customs duty charges are not withdrawn.
