A massive fire ravaged about 1,000 makeshift homes, many built on stilts over water, displacing thousands in a coastal village in Malaysia's Sabah state on Sunday.
The blaze broke out early Sunday morning in a water village in Sandakan district, affecting 9,007 residents, mostly from indigenous and stateless communities.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department deployed 37 personnel to battle the fire, but narrow access routes and low sea tide hindered their efforts.
No injuries or fatalities were reported, but the fire left 100% of the 10-acre area burnt.
Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has pledged assistance and temporary accommodation for those affected.
