A 20-year-old man has been charged with attempting to kill OpenAI CEO Sam Altman after allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at his California home.

According to US officials, Daniel Moreno-Gama traveled from Texas to carry out the attack, which also targeted the San Francisco headquarters of OpenAI.

Prosecutors say Moreno-Gama fled the scene and attempted to smash the glass doors of the building with a chair, leaving behind a document that advocated against AI and called for the killing of CEOs of AI companies.

No one was injured in the attacks, but the incident highlights the growing tensions surrounding the use of AI technology.

Altman has become a target for protesters who see AI as a threat to society, and his company's decision to provide its know-how to the US Department of Defense has been particularly contentious.

OpenAI has faced criticism over its valuation and revenue projections, but the company's CEO remains optimistic about the potential benefits of AI technology.
