Four astronauts are set to embark on a historic 685,000-mile journey to the moon aboard the Artemis II rocket, scheduled to launch on April 1. The mission marks the first time humans have flown beyond low-Earth orbit since the Apollo 17 mission in 1972.

Reid Wiseman, the mission commander, is a former NASA chief astronaut and US Navy test pilot who has spent 165 days in space on the International Space Station. Wiseman, a Baltimore native, was selected as an astronaut by NASA in 2009 and served as Flight Engineer aboard the International Space Station for Expedition 41 from May through November 2014.

Victor J. Glover Jr., the mission pilot, is a NASA astronaut and US Navy captain who is the first Black astronaut to live on the ISS for a long-duration assignment. Glover spent six months on the Crew-1 mission and was selected as an astronaut in 2013 while serving as a Legislative Fellow in the United States Senate.
