Three days after a car attack on a Michigan synagogue, Israel's military claims the attacker's brother was a Hezbollah commander. Ayman Ghazali, from Lebanon, rammed a car into a Detroit suburb synagogue, killing himself after exchanging fire with security guards.
The Israeli military says Ayman's brother, Ibrahim Ghazali, was a Hezbollah commander who managed weapons for a unit that fired rockets at Israel. Ibrahim and three relatives were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Lebanon a week before the attack.
A Lebanese official confirmed Ibrahim's death, adding that his children and brother were also killed in the strike. The Israeli military says Ibrahim was killed in a strike on a Hezbollah military building used to store weapons.
Authorities believe Ayman carried out the synagogue attack after learning of his family members' deaths. During the attack, Ayman waited two hours outside the synagogue before ramming into the building, where 140 children and staff members were inside.
He exchanged fire with an armed security guard before being killed by security officials. A search of the car found large quantities of commercial grade fireworks and several jugs of gasoline.
