Kathmandu, Nepal - In a massive operation, over 1,200 illicit structures built along the Bagmati and Manahara rivers in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur districts were demolished to beautify and protect the environment.
Nepal's federal government, in coordination with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City administration, carried out the two-day demolition drive, deploying thousands of security personnel.
Landless squatters were provided temporary accommodation and facilities at holding centers in Kirtipur and Dasharath Stadium.
The government aims to relocate the landless settlers, identifying those who are truly in need and making alternative arrangements for them.
This move is part of the government's plan to restore the banks of the Bagmati River and beautify the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
