North Korea fired two rounds of ballistic missiles towards the East Sea on Wednesday, marking the country's fourth confirmed missile launch this year.
The missiles were detected by South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff and Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's office, with the first missile travelling approximately 240 km.
The launches come a day after North Korea reportedly fired an unidentified projectile, which is believed to have failed shortly after takeoff.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has sought to repair ties with the North since taking office last year, but Pyongyang has refused to return to talks with South Korea and the US.
The US Indo-Pacific Command reported the launch of multiple ballistic missiles, stating that they do not pose an immediate threat to US personnel or territory or allies.
