NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani faced criticism for not condemning the ISIS angle in the IED case near Gracie Mansion during protests last week. Two men, Emir Balat and Ibrahim Nikk, are in custody for bringing explosives to the protest.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the explosives episode 'is being investigated as an act of ISIS-inspired terrorism'. However, no charges have been brought against Balat and Nikk yet.

Mamdani said during a press conference that the suspects 'are suspected of coming here to commit an act of terrorism' and that 'Anyone who comes to New York City to bring violence to our streets will be held accountable in accordance with the law.'

A separate investigation is underway in Pennsylvania, where police searched a home in Middletown Township and a federal investigation is being conducted in Newtown.
