Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch has shared an update on the 'suspicious devices' thrown during protests outside Gracie Mansion, the official residence of NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The devices, described as smaller than a football, were ignited during a clash between anti-Islam and counterprotesters. A bomb squad examined the devices, which were found to be improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that could have caused 'serious injury or death.'
Two people, Emir Balat, 18, and Ibrahim Kayumi, 19, both from Pennsylvania, were taken into custody in connection with the incident. The NYPD is working with the FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office to investigate the incident, which has been classified as a terrorism investigation. The mayor and his wife were not home at the time of the incident.
