A small plane crashed near the Pacoima and Van Nuys neighborhood of Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley region on Monday afternoon.

The 2007 Cessna 172S Skyhawk went down in the parking lot of an O'Reilly Auto Parts store, pulling down power wires, and immediately erupting into flames.

The pilot, a 65-year-old man, was rescued with injuries and is believed to be stable, though initially in critical condition.

The aircraft, registered to a local flight school, had left Whiteman Airport in LA.
