Israel has reportedly removed Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf from its 'hit list' following a request from Pakistan, a key mediator in the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict.
Citing a Pakistani source, Reuters reported that Islamabad urged the US to coordinate with Israel and ask it not to target the top Iranian officials.
According to the source, the US later asked Israel to 'back off' after Islamabad warned that eliminating Araghchi and Ghalibaf would leave no one to talk to.
The removal of the Iranian officials was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, citing US officials close to the matter, and was described as 'temporary'.
Pakistan's foreign minister, Ishaq Dar, confirmed that indirect talks have been taking place between Washington and Iran through messages relayed by Islamabad.
Along with Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt are also aiding in the mediation efforts, with Pakistan committed to promoting peace and stability in the region.
