Gordon S. Wood, a renowned historian of the American Revolution, has died after being struck by a vehicle in East Providence. He was 92 years old.
Wood, who served as a faculty member at Brown University since 1969, was walking in a parking lot when the incident occurred. He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, where he passed away.
The driver, who stayed at the scene, is not currently under any charges. An investigation is ongoing.
Wood was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in history for his 1992 publication "The Radicalism of the American Revolution." He also appeared in the PBS documentary "The American Revolution" and was honored with a National Humanities Medal by President Obama in 2011.
