Amid the ongoing war in West Asia, Russian President Vladimir Putin likened the disruptions caused by the conflict to the COVID-19 pandemic six years ago, stating that the consequences could be just as severe.

The war between the US, Israel, and Iran has caused significant damage to international logistics, production, and supply chains, with Putin warning that the consequences are still difficult to predict.

“Those involved in the conflict also cannot predict anything themselves,” Putin said, adding that it was hard to predict the consequences of the conflict.

The Russian president further stated that the war was putting intense pressure on hydrocarbon, metals, and fertiliser companies, and that the global trading system was experiencing its 'worst disruption in 80 years.'

World Trade Organisation chief Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala also echoed Putin's concerns, stating that the world order and multilateral system had irrevocably changed.

Russia has called for an end to aggressions and hostilities from all parties in the conflict, but has been accused of supplying Iran with war and drone technology, satellite imagery, and intelligence regarding US bases in the Gulf region.
