Fresno residents were left wondering about a possible explosion in the California city after a mysterious 'cloud like figure' was seen in the sky on Monday.

However, this was not due to any blast but rather a rocket launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base.

Many residents took to social media to share their concerns and visuals of the sky, wondering what was going on.

Kris Kuyper, with the national weather desk at local channel KMPH Fox 26, explained that the rocket launch was visible due to the size of the rocket and the timing of the launch.

The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket was big enough to be visible from Fresno, and the launch time, close to sunset, allowed the setting sun to light up the exhaust trail.

Residents who saw the incident shared their experiences, with one person describing it as a rocket moving upward with a puff of smoke and falling pieces.
