Villa Rica, Ga. - Former NBA superstar Shaquille O'Neal has offered to pay for the funeral of 12-year-old Jada Smith, who died after collapsing following a fight after school.
O'Neal's offer was announced in a joint news release by the sheriffs of Douglas and Henry counties, where the fight occurred and where O'Neal owns a home.
Jada got into a fistfight with another girl near a neighborhood bus stop on March 5, and died three days later at a hospital.
Police are investigating the incident, and results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death have not been released.
Jada's funeral is scheduled for Saturday, and O'Neal's offer aims to ease the financial burden on the girl's family.
