The Pima County Sheriff's Department is facing criticism after a social media post caused confusion in the search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie.
The post, which said 'Nancy has been located,' was actually about Nancy Radakovich, an 82-year-old woman who looks similar to Guthrie.
The post did not include Radakovich's last name, and the image used had a 'LOCATED' stamp across it, making it hard to tell who it was at first.
Many people misunderstood the post and took to social media to express their anger and frustration, calling the department 'careless' and 'deliberately misleading.'
The department is already under pressure after Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona on February 1, and investigators have not found a suspect yet.
The department has been working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation since the start of the case, and DNA analysis remains ongoing.
