The suspect behind the tragic Shreveport shooting has been identified as 31-year-old Shamar Elkins, a former US Army soldier. Elkins shot eight children dead and injured two women, with one in critical condition.
Hours before the mass shooting, Elkins posted on Facebook photos of his visit to a burger joint with his eldest daughter, captioning it a '1 on 1 date.'
The social media profile of Shamar Elkins has gone viral, with his posts featuring his children sending chills down the spines of those following the case.
Some of the children killed were identified as 'descendants' of Elkins, and two of the women shot in the head were also related to him.
The Shreveport Police Department has not identified the deceased children, saying that the formal identification is still pending.
As of now, it is unclear what prompted the shooting as the Shreveport Police Department continues their investigation.
